We aim to record the meeting and will make it available to those who are registered.

Our expert scientific panel members are:
Peter McKinnon, Sam Nayler, Tanya Paull, Martin Lavin, Ernst Wolvertang, Svetlana Khorenkova, Vincenzo Costanzo, Kim Chow

They will be asked 2 questions:

  1. What do they consider the basis underlying neurodegeneration in AT
    2. For each model, what approaches could be used for therapeutic benefit

12.00 – 1.00 p.m (UK): Causes of Neurodegeneration in AT
Five models of neurodegeneration will be considered as below.

  1. Faulty neuronal development: Peter McKinnon & Sam Nayler
  2. Stalled transcription: Tanya Paull
  3. Mitochondrial dysfunction causing oxidative stress: Martin Lavin & Ernst Wolvertang
  4. Hyperactivation or dysfunction of microglia: Svetlana Khorenkova
  5. Aberrant metabolism causing low energy levels: Vincenzo Costanzo & Kim Chow

1.00 – 1.30 p.m (UK): Discussion and consideration of a consensus model

1.30 – 1.40 p.m (UK): Presentation by John Skidmore, The Alborada Drug Discovery Institute, University of Cambridge: Early translation of basic research into drug discovery – learning from Alzheimer’s disease and other causes of dementia

1.40 – 2.10 p.m (UK): How can this knowledge be exploited for therapeutic benefit

2.10 – 2.30 p.m (UK): Open discussion
