NOTTINGHAM CLINIC
The A-T Society is pleased to announce that from the 1st April 2009, the clinic will be funded on a national basis by the National Commissioning Group for Highly Specialised Services on behalf of the NHS. The clinic is run as a partnership between the NCG, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the Society.
This marks a significant step forward in advancing the clinical management of A-T and therefore the quality of life and length of life of those who have the condition.
The Clinic is held several times a year. Each Clinic is held over two days (a Thursday and Friday) and takes place at the Children’s Development Centre, Nottingham City Hospital. Patients and their families attend both days. Six patients are seen per Clinic.
Those who have A-T, AOA1 (Ataxia Oculomotor Apraxia) and ‘A-T Like’ conditions are invited to attend.
This national centre was established by the Society in 1993.
Dates for 2010 are:
- 11 and 12 March
- 6 and 7 May
- 24 and 25 June
- 23 and 24 September
- 18 and 19 November
The Clinic is multi-disciplinary because A-T is a complex condition. Consultations will include the following specialties:
- neurology
- genetics
- immunology
- ophthalmology
- respiratory
- physiotherapy
- speech & language therapy
- dietetics
- occupational therapy
- counselling
The Clinic is intended to be complimentary to local care arrangements and allows all the concerns of the family to be addressed at a ‘one stop shop’ by interested and highly experienced staff. There are close links with the A-T Society, the A-T Clinical Center in the USA and a number of research groups.
Reports
Reports and any recommendations are sent to the local care team.
